It’s Okay to Be Still: Protecting Your Peace in Quarantine

In the past week, your timelines have probably been flooded with influencers painting this pandemic as the best opportunity to start a business or improve your life in some way. The truth is, a lot of us are terribly anxious about COVID-19. Some have been laid off or suddenly dealing with a drastic WFH transition. Parents are having to homeschool children and provide 2 additional meals per day. There’s a lot going on.

Before all this, the looming shadow of seasonal depression was just starting to fade and having to stay home with minimal social interaction and sunlight is sending a lot of people down a dark hole. While I appreciate the intent behind people’s motivation, it puts unnecessary stress on others to be productive during an already difficult time. Especially for those with mental health issues. Pushing yourself to create or be excessively productive will just leave you feeling overwhelmed and burnt out.

If you’re feeling the motivation to tackle your to-do list, great! If not, that’s okay too. Here are a few “no-pressure” ideas on what to do during quarantine.

  • Finally read the books you never had time to
  • Find a 20-minute yoga flow on YouTube
  • Write a gratitude list of the people and things that are important to you
  • Give yourself a mani/pedi

Remember, it’s okay to be still right now. It’s okay to rest and binge your favorite shows. Take this time to nurture and prioritize yourself in whatever way feels best for you. Stay safe friends.
