Skirts and The City: Part I

This is the first post of a two-part series on how to style skirts this summer! I always find myself reaching for crop tops and cut-off shorts, or I’ll spice it up with a dress (out of laziness) but I wanted to step out of my sometimes tomboy-ish comfort zone. Thus, this two part series was born! This is my first “series” of posts on the blog, let me know if you’d like to see more in the future.
image1-2 I immediately got Carrie Bradshaw vibes from this skirt I found at the thrift store. It’s actually a slip and meant to be worn under a heavier skirt, but I thought the polka dot pattern was special enough to be worn on its own. Slips are super lightweight and comfortable, so they’re the perfect alternative skirt in the summer heat.image1-1I wanted to bring out the torquise polka dots in the skirt, since they’re so tiny so I paired it with one of my favorite heels from Forever 21. Despite the blue being so bold, these heels surprisingly go with a lot of pieces in my wardrobe. It goes to show, you don’t have to be afraid of color! Small details go a long way.Screen shot 2015-06-20 at 3.02.18 PMI must admit, I used to stray away from longer skirts if they weren’t body con, for fear of looking like a grandma lol but I realized with the right top, a longer skirt could actually be sexy. This would have been the last top on my mind to pair with such a dainty skirt, being that it’s actually a Champion sports bra, but the juxtaposition of the pieces made it work!image1-3Don’t be afraid to try something that may be out of your comfort zone (like a lavender & turquoise polka-dotted skirt). With the right approach, you can pull almost anything off!
